Artist's Statement . . .
While living along coastal Alabama near Mobile Bay and growing up on nearby Dauphin Island it's no wonder fish and crabs and coastal landmarks became inspiration for my painting adventure. I began experimenting with painting when my husband and our daughters were tournament fishing. At the dock, quick sketches of their "catch" soon became subject matter on a canvas in my studio. The brightly colored, whimsical nature of these creatures have made them popular among collectors of my work.
Being self-taught in pastels, acrylics and watercolors, I welcome challenging opportunities to further develop as an artist. I am currently experimenting with oils and love the results ... but not the drying time! I often participate in local art festivals, juried events and competitions. My work can be seen in local businesses, gift shops and galleries.
Spending time in my studio surrounded by color and worn-out brushes, I often surprise myself with the outcome. Painting for hours is a gift I use to unwind and find balance. It's also a daily struggle with multiple health issues, but a gift, nonetheless. That gift comes back full circle when I share my work with others. For me, that is when the piece is finally completed ... when it finds a home.
